GUIDE 01 · Dads and Tots
Invest in dads. Give families a place to connect.
Build parenting friendships around play, conversation and time with children.
The biblical foundation
Mark 10:13–16 · Ephesians 6:4
Jesus welcomed children and gave them his attention. Fathers are called to nurture their children with patience and godly instruction. A gathering for dads and young children expresses that welcome and offers practical encouragement to families.
An example gathering
A suggested 90-minute gathering: welcome families, offer free play and refreshments, make room for conversations about parenting, and finish with a short shared activity. Start with a rhythm your team can sustain.
Getting ready
- A named leader and a small welcoming team
- A suitable space, clean age-appropriate toys and refreshments
- A clear arrangement that adults stay responsible for their children
- Your church’s safeguarding arrangements and a simple registration process
What helps
Give dads time to talk while their children play nearby. Listen to what families need, include grandads and male carers, and avoid assuming that everyone has the same family circumstances. Review the first few sessions with the team.
A question for your team
What would make this gathering genuinely helpful to the fathers and families in our community?
